How to Transfer Your Boat to a New Owner

Learn how to transfer a boat to a new owner in the Vanemar App, choose whether to include historical data, manage a pending transfer request, and complete the transfer by email.

The boat owner can transfer the boat and its existing Vanemar system to another person. This is useful when someone completed the initial installation on the owner's behalf or when the boat has been sold.

The new owner can continue using the existing Vanemar installation without setting up the system again.

Important Notice: Only the current owner of the boat can start an ownership transfer.

What happens when the transfer is completed

Before sending a transfer request, review the following effects carefully:

  • The new owner receives ownership of the boat and can use its existing Vanemar system without completing the installation again.

  • Active Vanemar Connect™ and other subscriptions for the boat are canceled. The new owner must start the subscriptions they need from their own account.

  • Every other user's access to the boat is removed. After the transfer, only the new owner has access.

  • Historical data is transferred or permanently deleted according to the `Include History` selection made when the request is sent.

These changes take effect when the recipient accepts the transfer request.

Send a boat transfer request

To start the transfer:

  1. Open your boat in the Vanemar App.

  2. Tap the menu button in the top-right corner of the boat screen.

  3. Tap the cell showing your boat's name to open `Boat Settings`.

  4. Tap `Transfer Boat`.

  5. Review the information about the transfer.

  6. Tap `Understood, Continue`.

  7. Enter the new owner's email address.

  8. Choose whether to turn on `Include History`.

  9. Tap `Send Transfer Request`.

  10. Review the recipient's email address in the confirmation alert.

  11. Tap `Send Transfer Request` in the alert to confirm and send the request.

The recipient does not need to have a Vanemar account when you send the request. If they do not have one, the transfer email guides them through downloading the app and creating an account.

Important Notice: Check the email address carefully before sending the request. The recipient must use this email address for their Vanemar account to complete the transfer.

Choose whether to include historical data

The `Include History` switch controls what happens to the boat's existing historical data when the transfer is completed.

Include the boat's history

Turn on `Include History` to give the new owner access to the boat's recorded history. This includes available historical data shown in Vanemar, such as:

  • Location

  • Battery voltage

  • Temperature

  • Humidity

  • Other recorded boat and sensor data

Transfer the boat without its history

Leave `Include History` off if the new owner should not receive any of the boat's existing historical data.

Important Notice: If `Include History` is off, the boat's existing historical data is permanently deleted when the transfer is completed. This data cannot be recovered later.

View or manage a pending transfer request

After the request is sent, `Pending Transfer Request: [email address]` appears below `Transfer Boat` in `Boat Settings`.

A transfer request remains valid for 30 days. If it is not accepted within this period, it expires and can no longer be used to complete the transfer.

Tap `Transfer Boat` while a valid request is pending to view:

  • The email address receiving the transfer

  • The current request status

  • The date when the request expires

From the alert, you can also:

  • Tap `Resend Request Email` to send the transfer email again.

  • Tap `Cancel Request` to cancel the pending transfer.

Canceling the request leaves ownership unchanged. You can start a new transfer request later if needed.

Accept the transfer request

Vanemar sends a transfer email to the new owner's email address. The email contains information about the transfer and an `Accept and Get Started` button.

To accept the transfer:

  1. Open the boat transfer email.

  2. Tap `Accept and Get Started`.

  3. Continue according to the account status:

    • If a Vanemar account already exists for that email address, the transfer is completed.

    • If no account exists, a `Vanemar Account Needed` message appears. Tap `Download the app and register`, create a Vanemar account using the invited email address, and verify the email address using the verification email sent by Vanemar. Then continue from the transfer email with the verified account if prompted.

  4. When the web page confirms that the ownership transfer was completed successfully, tap `Open Vanemar App`.

  5. Sign in with the new owner's account to view and use the boat.

After the transfer is accepted, the previous owner and all other users lose access. The new owner becomes the only user with access to the boat and can invite other users again if needed.

Notices

  • Only the current boat owner can send a transfer request.

  • A transfer request is valid for 30 days and expires if it is not accepted.

  • The new owner does not need to reinstall or set up the existing Vanemar system again.

  • Active Vanemar Connect™ and other boat subscriptions are canceled when the transfer is completed. The new owner must start new subscriptions as needed.

  • All existing users lose access when the transfer is completed. Only the new owner retains access.

  • If `Include History` is off, existing historical data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
