Picking the Ideal Installation Spot

Learn how to choose the best installation location for your Vanemar Gateway, considering signal strength, cable reach, environmental conditions, and your boat's layout.

Choosing the Ideal Installation Location for Your Vanemar Gateway

Choosing the right installation location is essential for reliable performance. Consider your boat's layout, power connections, wireless signal quality, and GPS antenna placement before mounting your Gateway.

  • Location for Optimal Signal Quality

For optimal cellular (GSM) and wireless sensor connectivity, install your Vanemar Gateway in an elevated, relatively central location whenever possible.

Avoid enclosed metal compartments, large metal structures, and other areas that may interfere with wireless signals. Ensure the Gateway is positioned to maintain reliable communication with your wireless sensors.

  • Cable Connections

The Vanemar Gateway comes with a 1.5-meter power cable. Choose an installation location within reach of a suitable 12 V or 24 V DC power source.

The external GPS antenna includes a 2-meter cable and should be positioned where it has the clearest possible view of the sky for reliable GPS reception. A location near a window may be suitable, provided the surrounding materials do not obstruct satellite signals.

Make sure both cables can reach their connection points without excessive tension, sharp bends, or interference with other onboard equipment.

  • Environmental Considerations

Install your Vanemar Gateway in a dry, well-ventilated location, away from excessive moisture, heat sources, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Choose a secure mounting surface that protects the Gateway from accidental impacts, excessive vibration, and potential environmental damage.

  • Tips For Boat Types

The ideal installation location may vary depending on your boat's size, layout, and onboard equipment.

Sailboats: A relatively central location near the batteries may be suitable, provided wireless signals are not obstructed.

Motor Yachts: Motor Yachts: The cockpit or saloon area may offer a practical installation location, depending on accessibility, power connections, and signal conditions.

Smaller Boats: Smaller Boats (Under 10 Meters): The aft or helm area may be suitable, depending on the boat's layout and available mounting space.

These are general recommendations. Always choose a location that provides reliable connectivity, suitable environmental protection, and convenient access to power and antenna connections.
