How Security Modes Work and How to Arm/Disarm
Learn the difference between Protection and Onboard modes, what each mode monitors, and how to quickly arm or disarm your system from the boat detail screen.
Vanemar security modes let you control how intrusion monitoring behaves based on whether you are on board or away from your boat. By switching between Protection Mode and Onboard Mode, you can keep security active when needed while avoiding unnecessary alarms during normal onboard activity.
Security modes in Vanemar App
Protection Mode
Protection Mode is designed for when you are away from the boat.
- Arms motion and entry sensors for intrusion detection
- Enables geofence protection
- Sends alerts for unauthorized access or unexpected movement
- Recommended when leaving the boat unattended
Onboard Mode
Onboard Mode is designed for normal activity while you are on the boat.
- Disarms motion and entry sensors
- Helps prevent false intrusion alarms during onboard activity
- Keeps monitoring active for critical safety alerts
- Recommended while staying on board for normal daily use
Important: What stays active in both modes
Regardless of mode, Vanemar continues monitoring critical alerts, including smoke, carbon monoxide, bilge water level, and battery status, as well as other critical warnings supported by your system configuration.
How to switch between Protection and Onboard modes
1. Open the Boat Detail page in Vanemar App.
2. Find the Security Mode switch on the screen.
3. Tap or swipe the switch:
- To Protection to arm the system
- To Onboard to disarm motion/entry intrusion monitoring
Countdown behavior (arming and intrusion grace period)
Vanemar Gateway starts a countdown when switching to Protection Mode so you can leave the boat before full arming.
A countdown can also start if intrusion is detected while the system is in Protection Mode, giving a short grace period to disarm if triggered accidentally.
You can change the countdown duration or turn it off from Security Settings > Countdown Time.
