Getting Started with Forwarding Alarm and Warning Notifications to MFDs

Learn how Vanemar notifications are delivered to MFDs using the Vanemar NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter.

Updated today

Overview

Vanemar allows critical system alarms to appear directly on compatible MFDs. This article explains how alarms travel from Vanemar sensors to your MFD and which components make this possible.

How the Alarm System Works

Vanemar alarms originate from onboard sensors and are processed by the Vanemar Gateway. To display these alarms on an MFD, Vanemar uses the Vanemar NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter, which bridges Vanemar’s ecosystem to the boat’s NMEA 2000 network.

Notification flow:

  1. A Vanemar sensor detects an event

  2. The Vanemar system processes the notification

  3. The notification is sent to:

    • The Vanemar App

    • The MFD (via the NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter)

What You Need Before You Start

Required Hardware

  • Vanemar Gateway

  • Compatible MFD (This feature works with the MFDs that supports Alert (126983), Ala Response (126984), Alert Text (126985) PGNs.)

  • Powered and terminated NMEA 2000 backbone

Important:
The Vanemar Gateway alone cannot send alarms to an MFD. The Vanemar NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter is required.
