The Receive NMEA 2000 Alerts feature brings supported alerts from compatible devices on your boat’s NMEA 2000 network into the Vanemar App. The Vanemar NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter receives these alerts and passes them to the Vanemar system. Depending on their type and your settings, they appear as alarms or warnings in the app.

This allows supported alerts from compatible onboard devices to be viewed remotely in the Vanemar App, including alerts that would otherwise only be available on the boat’s onboard displays.

How NMEA 2000 alerts reach Vanemar

  1. A compatible onboard device generates an alert.

  2. The device publishes the alert on the boat’s NMEA 2000 network.

  3. The Vanemar NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter receives the alert and forwards it to the Vanemar Gateway.

  4. Enabled alert types appear in the Vanemar App as alarms or warnings.

Red arrows show an alarm or warning traveling from a compatible NMEA 2000 device through the shared backbone to the Vanemar Boat Adapter. The adapter sends it wirelessly to the Gateway, then through Vanemar Cloud to the Vanemar App shown on a phone.

Note: An alert appearing on a device’s own screen does not necessarily mean it is published on the NMEA 2000 network. To appear in Vanemar, the source device must publish a supported NMEA 2000 alert message.

What you need before you start

  • A Vanemar Gateway.

  • A Vanemar NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter, paired with your Vanemar system and connected to your boat’s NMEA 2000 network.

  • A compatible device that publishes supported NMEA 2000 alert messages.

  • A powered and properly terminated NMEA 2000 backbone.

  • Vanemar Gateway firmware 2.8.3 or later and an up-to-date Vanemar App.

Notes

  • The Vanemar Gateway alone cannot receive alerts from the NMEA 2000 network. The Vanemar NMEA 2000 Boat Adapter is required.

  • The Gateway communicates wirelessly with the Boat Adapter. No physical cable connection is required between them.

If alerts are not appearing

  • Check that the Boat Adapter is paired with your Vanemar system and connected to the NMEA 2000 network.

  • Make sure the NMEA 2000 network and the source device are powered on.

  • Confirm that the source device publishes the alert as a supported NMEA 2000 alert message.

  • Check that Show Alerts in Vanemar and the relevant alert type are enabled.

  • Make sure you have saved your settings.

  • Make sure your Vanemar Gateway is running firmware 2.8.3 or later. If it is running an earlier version, update the firmware and try again.
