Updated this week

Overview

Correct installation and placement of your Vanemar Smoke Sensor is crucial for accurate smoke detection and reliable alerts. This guide will walk you through preparing your boat, selecting the best location, and mounting the sensor securely.

Safety and Preparation

  • Secure the Boat: Ensure your boat is stationary and securely moored before starting installation.

  • Work Environment: Choose a well-ventilated area, clear of clutter, for safe installation.

  • Battery Preparation: Remove the insulation pull tab from the battery before beginning.

Choosing the Best Location

  • Flat Ceilings: Place the sensor centrally, at least 30 cm (12 in) from lights or decorations, and 15 cm (6 in) from walls or corners.

  • Sloped Ceilings: Mount the sensor horizontally, 90 cm (35 in) away from the highest point.

  • Avoid Dead Air Areas: Do not place the device in corners, recesses, or areas with poor air circulation.

  • Keep Away from Heat Sources: Avoid installation near heaters, air conditioners, or vents.

Mounting Options

Option 1: Using Screws

  1. Use the included screws and dowels to secure the mounting bracket to the ceiling.

  2. Align the Smoke Sensor with the bracket and turn clockwise until it clicks into place.

Option 2: Using Adhesive Tape

  1. Peel off the backing from the double-sided adhesive tape on the mounting bracket.

  2. Firmly press the bracket onto the ceiling, ensuring the surface is clean and dry.

  3. Align the Smoke Sensor with the bracket and turn clockwise until it clicks into place.

For Both Mounting Options

  • Always ensure the Smoke Sensor is securely fixed and does not wobble.

  • After installation, press the Test Button to confirm the device is operating correctly.

Tips for Best Results

  • Install at least one Smoke Sensor per cabin or enclosed living area.

  • Test the device monthly using the Test Button.

  • Keep the Vanemar App updated to receive real-time alerts.

  • Replace the sensor if it has been exposed to smoke during a fire event, as reliability may be reduced.

Tip: For maximum coverage, consider installing multiple Smoke Sensors across your boat’s cabins and enclosed areas.
