Maintenance of Vanemar Smoke Sensor

Learn how to maintain your Vanemar Smoke Sensor for reliable smoke detection and long-term performance.

Updated this week

Overview

Regular maintenance ensures your Vanemar Smoke Sensor continues to protect your boat by detecting smoke and sending timely alerts. With a few simple steps, you can keep the device in peak working condition and extend its service life.

Tips & Recommendations

Monthly Testing

  • Press the Test Button once a month.

  • A loud “Di-Di-Di” siren and rapid red LED flashes confirm the device is working correctly.

  • If there is no response, check or replace the battery.

Battery Care

  • Replace the battery as soon as you receive a low-battery notification in the Vanemar App or hear a single “Di” sound every 53 seconds.

  • Always test the device after installing a new battery to confirm operation.

  • Only use the recommended CR123A or CR17335 lithium battery.

⚠️ Warning: Do not use leaking, damaged, or incompatible batteries, as they may harm the device.

Cleaning the Sensor

  • Gently clean the Smoke Sensor exterior with a soft, dry cloth.

  • Avoid using water, solvents, or compressed air, which may damage the internal components.

  • Keep vents clear of dust or debris to prevent false alarms.

After a Smoke Detection Event

  • If the device has been exposed to smoke or heat from a fire, we strongly recommend replacing it.

  • Even if it still appears to function, prolonged exposure can reduce sensitivity and reliability.

General Care

  • Avoid placing the device in areas with excessive dust, steam, or direct airflow (heaters, AC vents).

  • Ensure it remains within range of the Vanemar Gateway for reliable wireless communication.

  • Periodically check the sensor’s connection status in the Vanemar App. If you would need to extend your Vanemar Gateway's Network, you can visit the support article on How to Optimize and Extend Your Vanemar Wireless Sensor Network.

💡 Tip: Keep a spare battery onboard so you can replace it immediately if the sensor alerts for low power.

When to Replace the Device

  • If the Smoke Sensor consistently fails testing, even with a new battery.

  • If the sensor casing or internal components show signs of physical damage.

  • If the device has been in operation for many years and reliability is uncertain.
